Potheads for responsible practices on dope against dopes
Staff WriterDope. That’s a funny word, isn’t it? It means foolish, ill-informed, stupid, silly and at times, not fit for duty. President Ronald Reagan once made a joke about dope. Reagan said that he had “absolute proof that smoking one marijuana cigarette is equal in brain damage to being on ‘Bikini Island’ during an H-bomb blast.” You know who else had absolute proof about a few things? The Spanish Inquisition and George W. Bush, that’s who. Take scientists and religious leaders, who had “absolute proof” that the world was flat. Kind of dopey, right? Those same scientists now believe THC does not damage or destroy human brain cells, at all. I learned this fun fact in the ninth grade when my colorful biology teacher explained mitosis to us. That was almost 10 years ago. And people are still afraid to legalize this (expletive)? Aside from the dopes fearing dope based on dopey evidence forged on dopey ground, the most disappointing part of this conversation is that all of this has already been said. All of this information that explains marijuana’s benign effects in great detail has been readily available for a long time now. The argument shouldn’t be about what is good and bad for you, it should be about personal responsibility. Bill Cosby, who was anything but a moron, once made a joke about dope as well. “He said, ‘It amplifies your personality.’ And I say, ‘Well, what if you’re an asshole?’” I think Mr. Cosby had the right idea. We shouldn’t be talking about what drugs can or won’t do to your body, we should be talking about what people can and won’t do on pot when it is legalized. Like driving, operating heavy machinery and thinking you can fly. Dopes exist in all shapes and forms. And they don’t have to be high to do it either. And until people realize that, dopes will keep calling me a dope for smoking dope.
