Students might notice a little bit different look and feel to Blackboard. Over the summer, Washtenaw Community College upgraded Blackboard Learn to 9.1.

“Faculty response to the user interface has been very positive,” said Jared Slayton, manager of WCC’s Blackboard help desk. The students also get several new features and enhancements, too.

Students can now customize their home page with new themes, color palettes and navigation settings. My Places, Blogs, Journals, Wikis, Dynamic Visual Content and Notification Dashboard will make student life a little easier to keep up with academic demands.

My Places is found at the top of the home page. It is a quick way to go to previous locations. Blogs, Journals, Wikis and Dynamic Visual Content are tools the instructors will set up to facilitate group collaboration. The Notification Dashboard is the student’s home page with improved configurability for notifications.

Dynamic Visual Content is a multimedia tool that allows instructors to embed video links from YouTube.com, Slideshow.com and Flickr. com. These new features will enable instructors make their course content more entertaining, interesting and exciting. Students can also embed visual content in their posts.
