I’m sorry, but if you’re married and cheating you’re still an idiot

I’m sorry, but if you’re married and cheating you’re still an idiot

When I started working for The Washtenaw Voice in August, my main goal was to create a newspaper that everyone on campus felt compelled to read.

Keeping up with current events at Washtenaw Community College, although necessary, isn’t always interesting. Let’s face facts: enrollment just isn’t a topic that makes your eyes pop. Online dating horror stories, such as those featured in the article ‘Nice girl looking for a good guy,’ published Jan. 25, have a greater appeal.

The night before this long-awaited edition of The Voice hit newsstands, I tossed and turned over this online dating how-to. Because although I am driven to write stories that will grab the readers’ attention, I feared I may have gone too far.

As a journalist, part of the job description involves objectivity. So in regard to that article, I’d like to clear a few things up.

The inclusion of The Ashley Madison Agency in my comparison of online dating services was nothing more than a tool to grab the attention of readers.

And I want to make one thing in particular very, very clear: I do not condone infidelity. The Already married? portion of this Wildcard was written with the motive of creating satire, and nothing more.

Because, for anyone who has kept up with my opinion columns, offending people isn’t really at the top of my totem-pole of concerns. Admitting to dating guys who I think are uglier than me, and calling American Idol fans nothing more than glorified meth-heads, isn’t exactly subtle.

In my eyes, cheating is for 18-year-olds, hammered at a frat party. I’ve cheated, and I’m sure someone has cheated on me, because when you’re a freshman in college, the mistakes to be made are infinite. And even then it’s pretty pathetic.

For those who use the services of ashleymadison.com, I have one thing to say.

Get a divorce you disgusting, walking piece of trash. If your wife won’t give it up, it’s probably because you’re awful, and she’s lived with it for 25 years already. For the women who have an account, if your husband hasn’t been too attentive, check Ashley Madison for his profile, because it’s probably on there.

Part of being married is being faithful. If you can’t follow the rules of the game, you probably never should have taken it out of the box.

It’s disrespectful, it’s immoral and most of all, it is unbelievable to conceive people are still doing it 20, 30, 40 years after they graduate from college. And the thought that my words in any way may hint towards excusing infidelity have literally kept me awake at night.

I may not care if my words offend you, but leading the horse to water is a different story.

My intention was to make you laugh, and if the article had any other effect, I apologize.
