About the Washtenaw Voice

The Washtenaw Voice is produced fortnightly by students of Washtenaw Community College. Student publications are important in establishing and maintaining an atmosphere of free and responsible discussion. Editorial responsibility for The Washtenaw Voice lies with the students, who will strive for balance and integrity in their coverage of issues while practicing habits of free inquiry and expression.

Started around the time the college opened in 1967, The Washtenaw Voice ceased publication in 1980 before resuming in 1994. Students have produced the newspaper consistently each Fall and Winter Semester since. The Washtenaw Voice has previously been known as The Student Voice and The Voice.

In recent years, The Washtenaw Voice has won multiple annual awards with the Associated Collegiate Press, Michigan Press Association and the Michigan Community College Press Association. The newspaper won an outstanding 33 awards with the MCCPA in 2008. Keith Gave has been the Voice adviser since Fall 2008.

The Washtenaw Voice office is located in room 106 of the Technical Industrial building (TI 106).
