The Vermont senator was in Ann Arbor to rally support for Whitmer, a former state Senate Minority Leader, who faces Republican state Attorney General Bill Schuette, in the Nov. 6 election. Sanders won Michigan’s 2016 Democratic presidential primary and remains popular, especially with younger voters.

The Whitmer-Schuette race, and Friday’s event, was covered in a story in Sunday’s New York Times.
