Onomatopoeia (noun)

A thing or action named after the sound associated with it; a word describing the sound it mimics.

“In the sentence ‘the cat hissed when the mischievous dog popped one of the graduation balloons,’ the terms hissed and popped are onomatopoeias,” said the professor.
