The purpose of “Where Are They Now?” is to find WCC alumni, learn where they are now, and how WCC helped them navigate their career paths.
Mohamed Said began attending WCC as a student of Washtenaw Technical Middle College in 2014. Through WTMC, Said was a high school student taking college courses at WCC’s campus.
“I knew that going to WTMC, there would be a lot of skills and experiences that I would’ve gone through, and I would not have had that same opportunity if I went to a public high school,” said Mohamed.
Mohamed was an active student during his time at WCC/WTMC. He was a part of the WCC soccer team, WTMC frisbee team, and Phi Theta Kappa.
Said is a huge soccer fan as he loves playing it and watching it. “When I joined the WCC soccer team, it felt as if there was a bond.” He enjoyed his time on the soccer team because he developed new friendships and many of those friendships he still holds today. Also, the coaches pushed for him to be better as they would tell Mohamed it’s room for improvement. Mohamed’s thoughts on being a part of WTMC’s frisbee team mimicked his thoughts about the soccer team.
Not only was Mohamed a member of Phi Theta Kappa, but he was the vice president of finance and administration. His main task was to market the organization by attending events as he was “the face” for WCC’s Phi Theta Kappa. “If you want to achieve, Phi Theta Kappa makes it easier,” said Mohamed.
Mohamed graduated from WTMC in Winter 2017 and then attended Eastern Michigan University in the Fall of 2017. Mohamed was thankful for his time at WCC as it prepared him for his time at EMU. “I got to experience college courses and was able to learn how to hold myself accountable,” said Mohamed. Mohamed graduated from EMU with a bachelor’s degree in chemistry in May of 2021.
Mohamed had an internship right after graduation, which has now ended. He wanted to have as much time as possible to weigh out his options for his next step. Mohamed wants to go to Medical school in a year or two but first wants to have a job somewhere until then. He currently has multiple job offers but has yet to decide due to wanting to analyze the pros and cons of each decision. When asked about when his final decision would be made, Mohamed replied, “Soon.”
Mohamed has advice that he wants to share with WCC students as they attend school and prepare for the next steps in life. As he said, “In life, they are always setbacks. Never let that be the reason your hard work or passion dwindles.”
