Lyric Lane: Which song gives you hope (and why)?

Staff

Question:

“‘We Found Love’ by Rihanna gives me hope because it’s about finding light and joy even in difficult circumstances. It reminds me that love, in all its forms, makes everything feel possible again.”

“The song that gives me the most hope is ‘I’m Still Standing,’ by Elton John. The song just reminds me that no matter how much life throws punches or curveballs at me, I am able to withstand it and become stronger after those difficulties.”

“‘Houdini'” by Foster the People. I really couldn’t say what the lyrics are about exactly, but something about them—and the energy of the song—gives me a sense that freedom is real, and that it makes sense to have hope in what today and the future can bring.

“The fact that music exists already gives me hope. Knowing that there are people who feel so deeply and authentically that they created something so beautiful or terrifying or difficult or sincere. If I had to choose one song, it would be ‘Do You Realize??’ by The Flaming Lips. It puts everything into perspective for me.”

Skye Bawol

Graphic Designer

“‘Viva la Vida’ by Coldplay. There’s nothing about the song itself that gives me hope, but rather that it was the unofficial anthem of the indomitable human spirit trend from a couple of years back, which, by association, gives me a feeling of wellness with the world.

Jack Sink

“‘No More Rain (In This Cloud)’ by Angie Stone. The lyrics of this song explain how people should hold on during trials and tribulations, because time heals emotional wounds. In times such as these, I think it is important to remember to tough it out, put a smile on your face even when you don’t feel like smiling and make the best out of any troubling situation.”
