2023-24 Voice Team

Caleb Henderson
Editor

Major: Journalism
About yourself: This is my fifth semester at WCC, and second semester at the Voice. Prior to receiving this opportunity I always had a passion for writing, specifically fictional writing, and began to share them on social media over the years. When not writing or at school, I enjoy watching Formula 1, football or true crime and studying new languages on Duolingo.
Why are you at The Voice? Being a journalism major, when I was offered a position at the team I jumped at the opportunity to essentially get my feet wet in the field and truly witness what the job entails for the first time. It has been an incredible experience pushing myself to the limits of my writing capabilities, but also socially working as a team that I wouldn’t trade for the world.

Lily Cole
Deputy Editor

Major: Journalism
About yourself: I am starting my second year at WCC and hope to transfer to a larger university for my bachelor’s! I love writing and try to write daily. It’s amazing to de-stress and get thoughts in order. I have two cats and two dogs at home, who are my world. I spend most of my time with them, serving coffee, or practicing music. When not doing those things, I’m most likely spending a lot of money shopping.
Why are you at The Voice? When I heard about a WCC newspaper, I hesitated about joining. But, writing and learning more about journalism pushed me to join. I always want to learn as much as I can and strengthen my writing skills. Whenever there’s an opportunity, I take a leap and do it. I enjoy the social aspect and cannot wait to work with this team!

Kristy Kazzi
Staff Writer

Major: Psychology
About yourself: This is my fourth semester at WCC. After finishing my associate’s, I plan to transfer to a university to finish my bachelor’s. When I’m not at school, I am teaching fitness classes at Powerhouse Gym, and I am also a server and bartender at California Pizza Kitchen. I moved to Michigan 7 years ago from Lebanon and I have loved every second of it. I am very grateful to have two places I can call home.
Why are you at The Voice? I have always enjoyed writing and love getting to know people. When I heard about the scholarship opportunity at WCC, I jumped at the opportunity. I am not sure about what I want to do with my major so I am trying out different things and figuring out what I like! The Voice challenges me with new experiences every day and pushes me to discover myself more.

Alejandra Smith
Staff Writer

Major: International Studies and Middle Eastern Studies

About yourself: This is my fourth (and final) semester at WCC. I moved to Michigan around two years ago in pursuit of an intense whirlwind of change. With my mission now accomplished, I live in a co-op in Ann Arbor with 28 people. My life revolves around trying new things and attempting authenticity. My dog is my best friend.

Why are you at The Voice? I decided to join The Voice because writing is one of my passions. As a self proclaimed conversationalist, interviews are my strong suit. I thought it would be a great opportunity to contribute my skills to a community organization; and I have fallen in love with journalism.

Grace Faver
Graphic Designer

Major: Graphic Design
About Yourself: This is my second year as a Graphic Design major at WCC. After graduating high school in 2017, I worked in child care for several years. The shut down of Covid-19 is what inspired me to come back to school and I’ve loved every minute of it. At home I have two birds and a dog who receive too much love and attention. I spent most of my life living in a tiny town Belgrade, Montana. Which consisted of less than 10 thousand people and one McDonalds. After moving to Michigan about four years ago, I have fallen in love with the forests and attitudes of the locals. I’m excited to see more of what Michigan offers.
Why are you at the Voice? I’ve been working with The Voice since the Fall of 2022 and am incredibly grateful for its program. The Voice is an amazing opportunity for students to sharpen and showcase our talents in a professional environment, especially within the field that we wish to pursue. We have a great team, fun opportunities and work together to create a special paper.

Jada Hauser
Graphic Designer

About yourself: I have been at WCC since 2018. After taking a break from school during the Covid shutdown of 2020, I am excited to be graduating with a degree in graphic design this spring! After finishing school, I want to work as a designer and illustrator. Outside of school, my main hobbies are being a volunteer radio DJ at WCBN-fm and pottery.

Why are you at The Voice? I believe it is important to deeply root yourself in your community, an opportunity that being a graphic designer for our student-led publication provides. I am proud to use my creativity for The Voice and that we have such an amazing & hardworking team!

Paula Farmer
Photo Editor

About yourself: This is my last semester at WCC and The Voice. I love fashion and forcing my fashion advice on my friends and family. Besides photography, I enjoy spending time with friends and my tabby kitten named Cheese.

Why are you at The Voice? My love for photography started at a very young age, as I would steal my mom’s camera until I saved up to buy my own at nine years old. I love to shine a light on issues and help people through my work. I’m very excited to pursue a career in photography, and The Voice that lets me do just that.

Igor Monakhov
Digital Editor

About yourself: This is my fourth semester at WCC and first semester at The Voice. I have always been attracted by the beauty and convenience of various sites. My goal in college is to gain knowledge with which I can work in IT. I am taking lessons in the Client-side Web Developer program and the Server-side Web Developer program, and I am also learning the Java language. After graduation, I will be interested in applying myself in Web development. Studying takes up most of my time, however, when I have free time, I read political, economic news and analytical articles.

Why are you at The Voice? As a Web Developer, I was very lucky to have the opportunity to be part of a wonderful team creating a newspaper. This gives me the opportunity to participate in the creation of a digital version of the newspaper. This is a great opportunity for me to apply my knowledge and gain practical experience.
